The Dallas City Council is set to vote on a $960 million bond package, which will be split into several areas if approved. About $443 million will go towards supporting public safety, including the construction of a new police training facility at the University of North Texas at Dallas.
Breakdown of the Bond Package
The bond package also includes $500 million for the Dallas police and fire pension system, and $17 million for upgrades to the city’s fleet maintenance facilities. District 12 Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn has expressed concerns about the bond proposal, stating that she hopes voters won’t give politicians $500 million of debt authorization for an uncertain future.
District 7 Councilman Adam Bazaldua has also opposed the bond package, citing the need for the city to learn to live within its means. The Dallas City Council will vote on the issue on Wednesday, and if it passes, Dallas residents will see three bond propositions on the November ballot.
