Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry continued to demonstrate why he remains one of the NBA’s most lethal offensive players. In a high‑profile matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, Curry produced a highlight that is already being called one of the best of the 2026‑27 season.
Game context
The Warriors entered the game with a 44‑point performance already on Curry’s season log, while the Lakers were looking to contain the league’s rising star, Luka Doncic, who had recently posted a 52‑point effort against the Utah Jazz. Both players are among the early scoring leaders this season, setting the stage for a clash of elite talent.
The highlight
Early in the third quarter, Curry executed a defensive switch that put him on Doncic. He drove left, halted abruptly, and launched a step‑back three‑pointer. As Doncic fell, Curry released the ball, and the shot swished cleanly over the falling defender. The play, often described as an “ankle‑breaker,” was captured from multiple angles and quickly spread across social media platforms.
Commentary on the play noted the precision of Curry’s footwork and the timing of the shot, emphasizing how the move not only scored points but also sent a clear message about his continued dominance despite being 38 years old.
Immediate reaction
Fans and analysts praised the move as a reminder of Curry’s elite skill set. One commentator wrote, “It doesn’t get any more disrespectful than this,” highlighting the psychological edge such a play can provide in a tightly contested game.
Doncic responded on the next possession with a three‑pointer of his own, showing his resilience and ability to bounce back quickly, even though he was not the primary defender on that play.
Impact on the game
The Warriors ultimately secured the victory, with Curry’s highlight contributing to the momentum shift. While the final score is not detailed in the source, the play is being remembered as a defining moment of the night and a potential highlight reel staple for years to come.
What it means for the season
For Curry, the highlight reinforces his reputation as a player who can still produce game‑changing moments. For the Warriors, it adds to a narrative of veteran leadership guiding a team through a competitive Western Conference schedule.
For Doncic, the experience underscores the challenges of facing seasoned opponents and the importance of maintaining composure after a spectacular defensive play.
Both athletes continue to set the standard for excellence in the league, and fans can expect more thrilling encounters as the season progresses.
