Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Kicks Off 2026 Season with Festivities

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, a cherished heritage attraction in the Southwest, is set to commence its 2026 season on Tuesday, June 9. This marks the return of the renowned narrow-gauge railroad after a brief delay due to dry weather and wildfire concerns.

Spanning 64 miles between Chama, New Mexico, and Antonito, Colorado, the railroad offers breathtaking views of mountain passes, high desert landscapes, and historic rail corridors. Recently, it was recognized as the top scenic train ride in the nation by USA TODAY readers, further cementing its status as a premier destination for heritage tourism.

Community Celebrations

To celebrate the start of the season, the railroad is offering discounted coach fares on select summer excursions for bookings made before Sunday, June 7. Additionally, a Grand Opening Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, coinciding with Chama Western Heritage Days. This community festival will feature entertainment, vendors, and a variety of western-themed activities, providing a perfect opportunity for families and visitors to engage with local culture and traditions.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad not only serves as a vital link between two states but also plays an important role in supporting local economies through tourism. Its operation brings visitors to the region, benefiting local businesses and fostering a sense of community pride.
