Cruise Passenger Heroically Rescues Elderly Man in Mexico

A Carnival Cruise Line passenger, identified only as Myron, is being hailed as a hero after his quick actions saved an elderly man who fell into the water during a cruise stop in Costa Maya, Mexico. The incident occurred on May 19 while the Carnival Jubilee was docked at the port.

Quick Thinking Saves a Life

According to Carnival Cruise Line, the 84-year-old guest accidentally fell into the water while returning to the ship. Myron, upon noticing the man struggling, immediately removed his shoes and jumped into the water to assist. His wife, Amy, shared on social media that the man was face down in the water when her husband sprang into action.

Myron managed to reach the man and kept him afloat until help arrived. Amy described her husband’s actions in a TikTok post, stating, “Without a moment’s hesitation, my husband leaped into the water. He managed to grab hold of the elderly man, lift him onto his shoulder, and cradle him safely until assistance arrived to lift them both out of the water.”

Recognition and Praise

The rescue drew widespread praise on social media, with many users applauding Myron’s selflessness and courage. One user commented on his humility, noting, “The fact that he tried to walk off without any recognition just shows what an amazing human he is, humble and kind.” Another user added, “He’s truly a hero. Not many people would do what he did!”

Amy later shared that the couple received recognition onboard, including commemorative pins, a complimentary dinner at the ship’s steakhouse, and a thank-you message from their stateroom attendant.

The elderly man was safely recovered and transported to the ship’s medical center for care. He later debarked the ship in Galveston at the end of the cruise.
