CPSC Expands Grill Brush Recall to Nearly 2 Million Units Nationwide

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on August 27 that its earlier recall of Cuisinart metal‑wire grill brushes has been expanded. The new notice adds roughly 1,905,805 brushes to the original list, bringing the total number of recalled units to 3,625,800.

What brushes are affected?

The recall applies specifically to Cuisinart grill brushes with metal wire bristles. The original recall covered models such as CCB‑100, CCB‑4125, CCB‑5014, CCB‑6450, CCB‑8012, CCB‑4114, CCB‑W2, and CSBS‑777. The expanded list now includes additional model numbers, including CGWM‑024, CGWM‑059, FCB‑501, CGS‑W18, CCB‑134, CGWM‑061, CB‑395, CCB‑3001, CGWM‑077, CGWM‑058, CCB‑012/021, CGWM‑060, and FBH‑51.

All affected brushes can be identified by a black plastic, stainless‑steel, or wooden handle stamped with the word “Cuisinart.” Some of the brushes were sold individually, while others were part of multi‑piece grill‑tool sets such as the Premium Grill 10‑Piece Set (CGS‑2010), the 13‑Piece Wooden‑Handle Grill Tool Set (CGS‑W13), the 14‑Piece Deluxe Stainless‑Steel Grill Set (CGS‑5014), and the 20‑Piece Deluxe Grill Set (CGS‑5020).

Why the recall?

The CPSC says small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes during use. Detached bristles may stick to the grill surface or food, creating an ingestion hazard. Ingested bristles can cause serious internal injuries that sometimes require surgical removal. The agency has documented at least 54 reports of bristle detachment, including three incidents where consumers swallowed metal bristles and needed medical treatment to have them removed from the digestive tract or throat.

Where were the brushes sold?

The recalled brushes were sold nationwide at retailers such as Burlington, T.J. Maxx, and Ross, as well as online through Amazon.com and Cuisinart.com. Sales occurred from June 2009 through March 2026, with prices ranging from $8 to $20.

What should consumers do?

If you own any of the listed grill brushes, stop using them immediately. Contact Conair, the parent company of Cuisinart, for a full refund or a credit toward a new brush on Cuisinart.com. The refund includes an additional 20 percent of the cash refund amount as a goodwill gesture. After the refund is processed, discard the recalled brushes according to the instructions provided by Conair.

How to verify if your brush is recalled

  • Check the model number printed on the packaging against the lists above.
  • Look for the word “Cuisinart” stamped on the handle.
  • If you purchased a multi‑piece grill‑tool set, compare the set’s model number (e.g., CGS‑2010, CGS‑W13, CGS‑5014, CGS‑5020) with the recall list.

For additional information, visit the CPSC’s website or call their consumer hotline.

Protecting your family

Grilling is a beloved summer tradition for many American families. Ensuring that the tools you use are safe is an essential part of protecting your loved ones. By acting quickly and following the recall instructions, you can keep your backyard gatherings free from unnecessary health risks.
