Lisse Steakhuis, a well-known steakhouse in Covington, has closed its doors after a decade of business. The restaurant cited challenges from ongoing ramp closures for the Brent Spence Bridge project as the reason for its closure.
Impact of Bridge Project on Local Businesses
The steakhouse announced its closure through a message on OpenTable’s reservation website, stating that the ongoing ramp closure and resulting decline in traffic had created challenges that made it impossible for them to continue operating. The owners thanked customers for their support, saying it had been their privilege to serve the community and celebrate special occasions.
Lisse Steakhuis was not the only Covington business concerned about the impacts of the traffic changes. Multiple business owners had shared concerns with rising costs paired with potential years of disruptions tied to the infrastructure project.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has advised drivers to expect detours and allow an additional five to seven minutes for travel times. Covington Mayor Ron Washington said city leaders are working to ensure businesses remain visible and accessible during construction, and the city has received $750,000 from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to support businesses affected by the construction.
A new marketing campaign called ‘Bridge the Gap’ has been launched to advertise local businesses and remind customers that there are still multiple ways to reach Covington, including the Roebling Suspension Bridge and routes through Latonia.
