Fort Worth – A somber scene has developed outside the Stallion Pointe Apartments near Everman as friends, neighbors and school staff gather to remember Samuel Navarrete, a 16‑year‑old who was found shot in the driver’s seat of a vehicle on Wednesday evening.
What happened
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Fort Worth police responded to a report of a shooting at the apartment complex. Detectives discovered Navarrete lying in the driver’s seat of his car, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Remembering Samuel
Tanya White, a hall monitor at Everman High School, described Navarrete as a bright young man who was always “smiling, laughing all the time.” She recalled seeing him “always trying to sell snacks, wearing his earbuds and stuff.” White added that Navarrete had recently transferred to a different school program in the district and was working toward graduating on time.
“Long story short, Samuel did not deserve this,” White said. “Nobody deserved this, and Samuel definitely did not deserve this.” She expressed lingering “what‑ifs,” wondering if a different timing might have saved his life.
Police investigation
Homicide detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Buddy Calzada, public information officer for the Fort Worth Police Department, said investigators are looking into who may have been with Navarrete at the time of the incident and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
“That’s part of the investigation to figure out who may have been there with this individual, and that’s what we’re working on,” Calzada said.
How the community can help
Fort Worth police are urging anyone who saw the incident or who has video from nearby security cameras to contact the department. Tips can be submitted online or by calling the non‑emergency line. The department emphasized that community cooperation is vital to bringing those responsible to justice.
Moving forward
The memorial outside Stallion Pointe now includes flowers, candles and handwritten notes from those who knew Samuel. While the investigation proceeds, the community’s focus remains on supporting Navarrete’s family and honoring the memory of a young life cut tragically short.
