New Haven’s Common Ground High School marked a proud milestone this week as the Class of 2026 crossed the stage at graduation — and a standout group of seniors earned a special distinction along the way.
Eleven graduates from the school received an environmental honor, a fitting achievement for a school long rooted in environmental education and hands-on learning connected to the natural world. Common Ground, which operates on a working urban farm in New Haven, has built its identity around preparing students to be thoughtful stewards of the environment, and this year’s honorees represent that mission in action.
The celebration added to a week of joyful commencement ceremonies across New Haven’s public schools. Hillhouse High School saluted 246 graduates in its Class of 2026, while New Haven Public Schools as a whole saw 1,177 students graduate — with roughly half headed to college and more than 100 planning to attend vocational-technical schools.
Rain earlier in the week nudged some ceremonies indoors, but nothing dampened the spirit of the occasion. Families, teachers, and community members turned out to cheer on the newest class of graduates as they step forward into their next chapters.
Congratulations to all of New Haven’s Class of 2026!
