Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing to discuss reducing the trade gap between the two countries. Rahman is on a three-day trip to China, his first visit since becoming prime minister in February.
Trade and Cooperation
Rahman urged China to help diversify Bangladesh’s exports, including fresh mangoes, jackfruit, and pharmaceutical products. He also sought China’s support for implementing major projects and upgrading existing industrial units in Bangladesh.
China is willing to work with Bangladesh to import more high-quality products and expand cooperation in emerging industries such as new energy and artificial intelligence, according to a Chinese government statement.
Bangladesh joined China’s Belt and Road Initiative in 2016, a flagship infrastructure and development strategy aimed at connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe.
