Many people choose not to leave the state they were raised in for various reasons, including wanting to be close to family, not having the resources to leave, or sticking with a lower cost of living. In order to determine where people stay put in their home state, Stacker compiled a list of counties with the most born-and-bred residents in Colorado using data from the Census Bureau.
Top Counties
The list includes the top counties with the highest percentage of residents who were born in Colorado. The top 5 counties are: Adams County with 50.3% of residents born in Colorado, Moffat County with 50.6%, Baca County with 50.8%, Rio Blanco County with 49.9%, and Mesa County with 49.9%.
Other notable counties include Larimer County with 38.6% of residents born in Colorado, Arapahoe County with 39.4%, and Jefferson County with 44.5%. The data also shows that the majority of residents in these counties were born in another state, with some counties having a significant number of residents born in U.S. territories or another country.
