After 41 years of service, founding trustee Robert ‘Bob’ Collins has retired from the Collin College Board of Trustees. Collins, a resident of Farmersville, played a crucial role in shaping the college into the institution it is today, with 10 campuses and centers across seven cities, as well as its iCollin Virtual Campus and over 200 degree and certificate programs.
A Legacy of Growth and Affordability
During his tenure, Collins emphasized the importance of affordability, working to maintain a low tax rate while expanding educational opportunities. He also supported workforce training and dual-credit programs, which can save families significant amounts of money. Collins noted that a student who earns college credits while in high school can save their family between $10,000 and $20,000.
Collins’ final commencement ceremony was particularly meaningful, as his grandson was among the graduates. He reflected on his time on the board, saying, ‘We always believed Collin County deserved a college that could grow with the community and provide opportunities for generations of students.’ Collins plans to remain active in his church and community, supporting causes important to him.
A Lasting Impact
Collin College President Neil Matkin credited Collins with helping build the institution’s foundation and expand opportunities for generations of students. Collins’ legacy will continue to shape the college and the community it serves.
