Feeling jittery from coffee is a common experience for many Americans. A nationwide survey found that 36% of American coffee drinkers experience ‘coffee jitters.’ Experts say a combination of how, when, and how much coffee you’re drinking could be triggering those shaky, on-edge side effects.
What are the coffee jitters?
The coffee jitters can show themselves through anxious knee tapping, a racing heart, the shakes, and other anxiety symptoms. The coffee jitters can also cause a person to be restless and increase the amount of adrenaline and cortisol in a person’s body.
Younger adults aged 18 to 24 are more likely to be affected by coffee jitters. The study found that 58% of respondents who fall into that demographic reported feeling the anxious symptoms that often follow drinking coffee.
Combat coffee jitters
Luckily, there are viable coffee alternatives—to combat that buzz, including mushroom coffee alternatives. Some respondents have tried switching to tea, matcha, or decaf coffee. However, if you’re like many coffee drinkers and don’t just love the taste of coffee but also need that caffeine boost, making the switch may not be as easy.
Lower-caffeine mushroom coffee alternatives such as Everyday Dose help give coffee drinkers a caffeine kick without the anxious feeling that sometimes follows it.
