Delray Beach resident Coco Gauff defeated Belinda Bencic of Switzerland on Sunday to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time. Gauff, the seventh seed, won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 women’s singles match on Court 1.
Gauff, who is 22 years old, had four aces in the match. She will next face another American, No. 4 Jessica Pegula, 32, of Buffalo, in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Gauff has previously won two major singles titles: the US Open in 2023 and the French Open in 2025. She also won the 2024 French Open doubles title alongside partner Kateřina Siniakova.
Other Wimbledon Matches
Naomi Osaka of Japan outslugged top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-2, 7-6 (2) to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time. Osaka will now face a rematch with Muchova, who beat 2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
