NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign is officially kicking off for a 12th consecutive year, aiming to get as many shelter pets adopted as possible and to raise money for shelters who care for these animals while they wait for a forever home.

The MSPCA-Angell Shelter in Jamaica Plain is one of the partners across the state participating in the campaign. Operations supervisor Corinne Bourgoin said they have more than just cats and dogs available for adoption, including rabbits, Guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, birds, and sometimes exotic pets.
Bourgoin emphasized that the shelter talks about a pet’s needs and the adopter’s lifestyle to find a good match. Some shelters offer discounts, such as waived adoption fees, during the campaign.
The MSPCA will be receiving about 80 cats from Texas this weekend as part of their work to support shelters across the country affected by natural disasters.
