Clarksville’s flood wall, which once separated the riverfront from Main Street, is now open. This change is expected to bring more visibility, foot traffic, and parking for customers to local businesses.
Impact on Local Businesses
For businesses along Main Street, the reopening of the flood wall is about more than just infrastructure. Owners believe it will create a stronger connection between the riverfront and downtown, making it easier for people to walk into the heart of the business district.
Heidi Craft, owner of Ripple Effect Lagree Studio, said, “We’re just excited to see South Clarksville growing. And part of that growth is having this flood wall open.”
Laci Riley, owner of Amaryllis salon, added, “The flood wall opening will definitely bring us a lot more foot traffic, which is what is needed for sure.”
Parking and Accessibility
Business owners also say that the expanded access south of the flood wall could ease parking challenges, another key factor for customers visiting Main Street.
Craft noted, “Most importantly, all of our clients and our customers park on Main Street, on the street. So to be able to have access south of the flood wall, to be able to find several more parking spots, is huge for us and our clients.”
