Cincinnati’s East Side saw a historic amount of rain on Friday, with 3.07 inches of rain falling at the Lunken Airport. This is nearly a typical month’s worth of rain in a single day.
Record-Breaking Rainfall
The National Weather Service’s data indicates that an average of 3.43 inches of rain typically falls at the Lunken Airport every August. However, this August has already seen 4.42 inches of rain, raising fears of a third record-breaking month.
The East Side recently experienced the largest consecutive two-month rainfall total in the region’s recorded history between June and July, totaling 21.95 inches of rain over 61 days. This led to historic levels of flooding, causing widespread property damage in neighborhoods such as Hyde Park, Oakley, and Fairfax.
More rain is forecasted throughout the week of Aug. 9-16 across Greater Cincinnati. Those affected by recent flooding are urged to contact the Metropolitan Sewer District to report damage done to their homes and businesses.
