Cincinnati residents are adapting to the intense summer heat by adjusting their schedules and finding creative ways to stay cool outdoors.
Runner Fedor, originally from Siberia, shared his experience of exercising in the heat, saying ‘It feels like a sauna, running in a sauna.’ He uses a heart rate monitor to track his exertion and adjust his pace.
Staying Cool in the Heat
At Sawyer Point, pickleball players are taking precautions to deal with the heat. ‘It’s just thick, wouldn’t you say? It’s just really thick,’ said Jane Cytrynowitz, a pickleball player. She emphasized the importance of playing early to avoid the worst of the heat.
For Tion Harrison and his son, cooling off at Smale Park’s water features provided a welcome break from the heat. ‘Very humid, very hot, it feels like you’re swimming while you’re walking,’ Harrison said.
Hydration, electrolytes, and rest are especially important with temperatures and humidity high. Locals are prioritizing early morning activities to avoid the peak temperatures later in the day.
