Cincinnati is repaving a half-mile stretch of Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill as part of a $10 million project to improve roads citywide and increase paving efforts year over year.
Project Details
The construction, which spans between Grand and Glenway avenues, involves rebuilding the road from the ground up. Chris Ertel of the Department of Transportation and Engineering said, “So right now we have the south side of the road excavated so we can put in new base pavement.”
Ertel noted that the length of the project allows for multiple crews to work simultaneously. “There might be two crews at the other end of the project as well because it’s so long they can work at it from either end,” he said.
The Warsaw Avenue project is just one part of the city’s larger plan to improve its roadways. Greg Long, interim director of the Department of Transportation and Engineering, said, “Our goal for the department is to do 20% more year over year paving from the previous year.”
That goal is expected to be reached by 2026, with additional plans already in place for 2027. Officials are using the regular budget, funds from the railroad sale and other strategies to maximize resources.
Ertel highlighted the scale of the city’s road network and asked for patience from residents. “Please have patience. The city is a big network. We’ve got almost 3,000 lane miles, almost a thousand miles of street that we have to maintain,” he said.
City officials also addressed concerns about roads that appear to be patchwork projects, explaining that these are short-term fixes with plans for long-term repairs in the future.
The Warsaw Avenue project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with more construction zones likely to appear across Cincinnati as the city works to ensure smoother commutes for residents.
