Cincinnati City Council has passed the city’s budget for the next fiscal year, overcoming a $30 million deficit while maintaining services and investing in infrastructure and public safety.
Public Safety a Top Priority
Mayor Aftab Pureval praised the administration’s work on infrastructure spending, emphasizing the importance of public safety as a top priority. The budget prioritizes public safety, affordable housing, and opportunities to grow the city, with council members emphasizing its alignment with the city’s goals.
Not everyone was fully satisfied with the budget, as debate continued over a $2 million investment in the Farmer Music Center, also referred to as ‘Riverbend 2.0.’ Mayor Pureval stated that the investment was important to provide a guaranteed level of ticket tax revenue for the city over the next decade.
The budget also includes significant funding for fire and police departments, with the mayor emphasizing public safety as a key area of focus.
