Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh launches art‑inspired mini‑golf exhibit at MuseumLab

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is bringing a fresh family‑friendly attraction to its MuseumLab space: “Putt‑a‑Palooza: Art Inspired Mini Golf.” The exhibit features a carefully crafted nine‑hole mini‑golf course that draws directly from the Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s collection in Greensburg.

Art meets play

Each hole on the course is modeled after a different artwork from the Westmoreland’s holdings. The original pieces are reproduced and displayed alongside the playable course, allowing visitors to experience the visual art in a new, interactive way. The concept was first launched at the Westmoreland Museum and has now been adapted for the Children’s Museum’s MuseumLab venue.

Collaboration and craftsmanship

The exhibit was created through a partnership between the Westmoreland Museum and the artist duo known as A Couple of Putts, who specialize in designing mini‑golf holes that reflect artistic themes while maintaining high‑quality playability. The physical construction of the holes was handled by 3DX Scenic, a firm that provides immersive theming for amusement parks, museums, zoos, live events, and similar venues.

Honoring a golf pioneer

“Putt‑a‑Palooza” is dedicated to the memory of Tom Tanto, a longtime supporter of the Westmoreland Museum and a pioneer in golf‑course development and irrigation. The dedication underscores the exhibit’s blend of artistic appreciation and the sport’s heritage.

Visiting details

MuseumLab is open on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as select holidays, from noon to 5 p.m. The Children’s Museum’s regular fall hours run daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with closures on certain Wednesdays. The mini‑golf exhibit will be available to the public through April 18.

More information

Families interested in attending can find additional details on the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh website (pittsburghkids.org) and the MuseumLab site (museumlab.org). The exhibit offers a unique blend of education, art, and recreation, making it an appealing outing for children, parents, and art enthusiasts alike.
