A plan to replace the Ford City Mall in Chicago with an industrial warehouse and public plaza is moving forward. Midwest RE Acquisitions LLC, an affiliate of Kurv Industrial, will appear before the city’s Plan Commission to request the rezoning of the site.
Project Details
The proposed project will replace the mall with four industrial buildings, measuring 912,880 square feet, and include a new CTA bus terminal, over 900 trees, and landscaping and stormwater management. The $200 million development is expected to create 185 permanent jobs and 90 construction jobs.
The Ford City Mall closed in June due to a defective fire suppression system, and the site has been plagued by crime and disrepair. The new development is seen as a way to revitalize the area and bring in new economic opportunities.
