The Chicago Park District is giving residents a chance to decide how to spend $500,000 on park improvements. Through a participatory budgeting process, residents can rank four categories of projects to help determine how the funds will be allocated.
How to Vote
All Chicagoans 13 and older can vote online or by completing a paper ballot at a Park District fieldhouse or community outreach event through August 27. The four categories to rank are based on over 1,000 ideas submitted by community members between January 17 and March 31.
The Park District will work to fund as many projects as possible within the winning category, with a minimum of nine projects and at least three in each of the north, central, and south regions. The winning category will be announced in early September, and the specific projects selected for funding will be announced in November.
The Park District plans to hold future participatory budget cycles, allowing residents to continue having a say in how their parks are improved.
