Chicago is offering plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature this July. From historical bike tours to ice cream socials, there’s something for everyone. The Thursday Evening Paddle Club is a relaxed, social paddle designed for anyone who wants to connect with the water and neighbors who also want to get out on the water.
Events
Some of the events include a home garden walking tour through Roscoe Village, a paddle down the north branch of the Chicago River, and a clean-up workday at Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary. There are also opportunities to learn about camping, birding, and conservation.
The Chicago Ornithological Society is hosting a Flock Club!, a social gathering for birding enthusiasts, at Bartleby’s Homemade Ice Cream. The event will feature cold treats, live bluegrass, and conversation all about birds.
For those interested in history, there’s a walking tour of Big Marsh Park, which was once a dumping ground for industrial waste but is now 280 acres of restored wildlife habitat, bike trails, and green space.
