Chatham Retired Educators Shine at Georgia Convention

The Georgia Retired Educators Association (GREA) recently hosted its 65th Annual Convention at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center from May 5-7, 2026. Among the attendees were 22 members of the Chatham Retired Educators Association (ChathamREA), who were recognized for their outstanding contributions and achievements.

ChathamREA’s Achievements

ChathamREA was honored with several awards, including those for Scholarship Participation, History Update, Local Officer Information Sheet, Scrapbook, Handbook, Newsletter, Public Relations, Local Unit Service Project, and the prestigious Unit of Excellence recognition. These accolades highlight the dedication and commitment of the ChathamREA members to their community and the field of education.

Convention Highlights

The convention featured a variety of engaging activities, such as breakout sessions, the “Keep On Keeping the Vision” Banquet, and the Local Units Award Breakfast. A moving Memorial Service was held to honor deceased GREA members, and the Past Presidents’ “Thank You for Keeping the Vision” Banquet took place on Thursday evening. Attendees also had the chance to win prizes throughout the event.

New Leadership and Future Plans

A significant moment of the convention was the swearing-in of the incoming GREA President, Dr. Sallie Mills. She introduced the 2026–2027 theme, “Sound the Trumpet,” with a memorable presentation that included the sound of trumpets resonating throughout the room. The convention was a rewarding experience for all, and members are already looking forward to the 67th Annual Convention scheduled for May 4-6, 2027, in Augusta.
