Central Coast Labor Council Holds Annual Labor Day Picnic at Santa Maria’s Pioneer Park

Santa Maria, Calif. – The Central Coast Labor Council kicked off the long Labor Day weekend with its annual picnic at Pioneer Park, turning the city park into a bustling hub of community networking.

The event, now a staple of the holiday, drew members from all 75 affiliate unions spanning San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Attendees included educators, healthcare workers, construction tradespeople, agricultural laborers, public‑safety personnel and their families.

Family‑friendly festivities

Organizers provided a classic barbecue menu, ice‑cream treats, bounce houses and games for children. Live entertainment featured a performance by Righetti High School’s Ballet Folklorico, adding a cultural touch to the celebration.

Political presence

Three candidates running for seats on the Santa Maria City Council were on hand with their families, using the gathering as an informal opportunity to meet voters and discuss community priorities.

The picnic also marked the 142nd national Labor Day holiday, commemorating the historic adoption of the 40‑hour work week that set the standard for American workers.

By bringing together a broad cross‑section of the region’s labor force, the Central Coast Labor Council’s Labor Day Picnic reinforced the importance of strong families, faith‑based community values and individual liberty in building a thriving local economy.
