Celebrity couple sues dog trainer after 2‑year‑old Bernese Mountain dog dies in Los Angeles

Los Angeles – Influencer Madeleine Fedyk and her husband, Loud Luxury DJ Andrew Fedyk, have filed a claim against a local dog trainer and boarding facility, accusing them of negligence after their 2‑year‑old Bernese Mountain dog, Dunkin, died while the couple was overseas for three weeks.

Allegations of negligence

According to statements made to KABC, the Fedyk family left Dunkin at the trainer’s facility for basic obedience work and socialization. Within 48 hours of their return, they were informed that the dog had died from extreme heat while training at a nearby park.

“Dunkin was never taken to a vet… We weren’t called for at least four, five hours after he passed away,” Fedyk said. “The story didn’t really make much sense to us at the time, when he told us. But we now have a very different view of what has happened.”

Calls for accountability

Andrew Fedyk emphasized the family’s grief, adding, “He was not just a dog, he was a member of our family. We miss him deeply and we will do whatever we can to get justice for him.” The couple also reported receiving messages from other pet owners who claim their dogs died while under the same trainer’s care.

The trainer and boarding facility have not yet responded to requests for comment, and KABC has indicated it will withhold naming the company until a statement is received.

Broader concerns about pet‑care safety

This incident highlights growing concerns among Los Angeles pet owners about the safety standards of private dog‑training and boarding operations. While many facilities provide valuable services, experts advise owners to verify that trainers have proper certifications, adequate ventilation, and emergency veterinary plans, especially during periods of high temperature.

Local animal‑welfare groups encourage the city to consider stricter licensing requirements and regular inspections for pet‑care businesses to protect animals from preventable harm.

What’s next?

The Fedyks are reportedly consulting legal counsel to explore a civil claim for wrongful death and negligence. They hope their case will prompt greater transparency and accountability within the industry.

Pet owners in the area are urged to research facilities thoroughly, ask about heat‑mitigation measures, and ensure that any trainer or boarding service has a clear protocol for emergency veterinary care.
