Despite a sweltering holiday weekend that forced many Maryland communities to postpone or cancel their Independence Day celebrations, Catonsville’s cherished Fourth of July parade went on as planned — and delivered, marking its 79th consecutive year of marching through the neighborhood.

According to WMAR 2 News, the annual tradition beat the heat and brought the community together for another festive celebration on July 4, 2026. The Catonsville parade is one of the longest-running Fourth of July parades in the Baltimore area, and this year’s milestone edition proved that community spirit is more than a match for summer temperatures.

The event stood out all the more given that triple-digit heat prompted cancellations and postponements at other venues across Maryland. Catonsville’s organizers and participants pressed forward, keeping alive a nearly eight-decade tradition that residents look forward to each year.

Also staying the course on the Fourth was the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, which kept its holiday plans as scheduled despite the heat, according to WBAL-TV — giving Baltimore-area music lovers another reason to celebrate the holiday.
