Casper, Wyoming, is preparing for the August 18 primary election. As part of Oil City News’ candidate questionnaire series, Dan Grafton, a candidate for Casper City Council Ward II, shared his thoughts on the challenges facing his constituents.
Challenges and Priorities
Grafton noted that the increasing cost of living in Casper forces residents to make difficult choices about the level of service the city can provide. This includes vital infrastructure like roads, sewer, water, and parks, as well as city services such as fire, police, recreation, and garbage collection.
To address these challenges, Grafton emphasized the importance of utilizing city staff’s expertise and transparency with the public. He proposed developing a visioning process to understand the public’s priorities and combine it with the delivery cost of services to provide a clear direction for resource allocation.
Qualifications and Experience
Grafton has a degree in Geography and Regional Planning from Eastern Oregon University. He has experience in county and city planning, including long-range and current planning, and has worked in airport port management and development. Grafton currently works in Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance for a midstream company in Wyoming.
