Democratic strategist James Carville warned during a CNN interview that far-left candidates were ‘too hard-headed’ to understand they’re unpopular and added, ‘People don’t like ’em.’ Carville cited Michigan and Wisconsin as examples where far-left candidates are winning elections, which he believes could be a liability for the party at the national level.
Far-Left Candidates Winning Elections
A wave of democratic socialist candidates won Democratic primaries in New York City earlier this year. Abdul El-Sayed’s competitive bid for the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat and Francesca Hong’s frontrunner status in the Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor have also signaled a shift to the left for the party.
Carville’s co-host, Al Hunt, warned that the far-left’s rise could create problems for other Democrats, as the narrative that the left is taking over the party could be damaging. Carville also criticized the democratic socialists, saying they are ‘dragging our names through the mud’ and suggested they should change their name if they don’t like being associated with the Democratic Party.
