Democratic strategist James Carville argued that major television networks made a mistake by not carrying President Donald Trump’s election integrity speech in full. Carville said Americans should have been allowed to watch the president’s remarks for themselves, describing his behavior as ‘increasingly erratic.’ He suggested that watching the address in its entirety would have reinforced concerns about the president’s conduct.
Networks’ Decision
Carville’s comments came after Trump’s primetime address, during which the president renewed his focus on election integrity and alleged that China had engaged in an influence campaign aimed at shaping U.S. public perceptions. Trump did not claim that China changed votes or altered election results. Fox News carried the speech in its entirety, while other networks, such as CBS News and MS NOW, provided partial coverage.
Carville told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he would advise Democrats to attack the networks for not airing the speech, saying that the president’s behavior is ‘newsworthy.’ He also argued that the networks missed an opportunity to let voters judge Trump’s remarks for themselves.
