The Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh is hosting the 59th Carnegie International, a quadrennial exhibit of cutting-edge artists from around the world. The latest edition, titled ‘if the word we,’ explores themes of community and connection, featuring 61 artists and collectives from 26 countries and territories.
A Global Perspective
The artists hail from locales as close as Cleveland and Philadelphia and as far away as Benin, Lebanon, and Trinidad and Tobago. The exhibit is the result of three years of work by curators Danielle Jackson, Liz Park, and Ryan Inouye, who sought connections across a wide range of communities.
According to Eric Crosby, the museum’s director, ‘the International has long served as a space where artists, ideas, and publics meet – where the museum tests new ways of thinking about its role in the world as it’s being made.’ The exhibit will run through January 3, and more information can be found on the museum’s website at cmoa.org.
