Car crashes through front of Newark Wingstop, cleanup under way

Newark, Delaware — Early Monday morning, a car burst through the front of the Wingstop restaurant located in the La Grange Center strip mall on the 2600 block of Pulaski Highway. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m., prompting an immediate response from local emergency crews.

Immediate response and cleanup

Police, fire personnel, and EMTs arrived on scene within minutes. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and, according to witnesses, declined any medical treatment despite the obvious impact. No other injuries were reported.

City crews began clearing debris and securing the area shortly after the crash. By mid‑afternoon, contractors were working to remove the damaged portion of the building’s façade and to assess structural integrity before the restaurant can reopen.

Wingstop’s recent opening

The Newark Wingstop opened its doors just last month, adding a popular fast‑food option to the La Grange Center’s mix of retailers. The sudden damage has temporarily halted service, disappointing local patrons who have come to enjoy the chain’s chicken wings and sides.

Investigation ongoing

Law enforcement officials have not released details about what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. No charges have been filed at this time, and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine whether speed, mechanical failure, or another factor contributed to the crash.

Residents in the area expressed concern over the safety of the busy Pulaski Highway corridor, which sees a high volume of traffic during peak commuting hours. Some community members have called for additional traffic calming measures, such as speed‑limit signage or improved lighting, to help prevent future incidents.

Impact on local traffic

While the crash caused a brief disruption, police reported that traffic flow on Pulaski Highway returned to normal within an hour after the scene was cleared. Drivers were advised to remain cautious and follow any posted detour signs while cleanup continued.

The Wingstop franchise has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident or its plans for reopening. Management is expected to coordinate with the city’s building department to ensure all safety standards are met before resuming operations.

Community response

Neighbors and regular shoppers at the La Grange Center gathered outside the damaged storefront, offering words of support to the driver and expressing hope that the restaurant will reopen soon. Local businesses in the strip mall also voiced solidarity, emphasizing the importance of a swift recovery for the area’s economy.

Authorities will release further information as the investigation progresses. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or unsafe driving behavior to Newark Police Department’s non‑emergency line.
