A defense attorney has obtained a series of text messages from disgraced Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor, which she claims reveal racist and sexually violent content. The messages, which were obtained as part of a motion to dismiss the case of Myles King, have raised concerns about the integrity of the case and potentially others that Proctor was involved in.
Concerns Over Proctor’s Hiring and Past Behavior
Law enforcement experts are raising questions about how Proctor was hired and whether warning signs may have been missed. Todd McGhee, a retired state trooper, said that the texts were disturbing and that he expects more to surface as a result of ongoing lawsuits.
The case of Juston Root, who was shot 31 times by police in 2020, is also being re-examined in light of the new information. Root’s family has long questioned the handling of the investigation, which was completed in just 30 days.
The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office has not commented on whether it plans to conduct a comprehensive review of Proctor’s past cases.
