Dreyfuss’s decision to move to Portugal was prompted by the high cost of living in San Diego, where she previously lived and worked as a teacher. She found that the cost of living in Portugal is about 40% to 50% lower than in the US, allowing her to live comfortably on her retirement income.

While Dreyfuss has faced some challenges in Portugal, such as learning the language and navigating the banking system, she says the benefits far outweigh the difficulties. She loves the sunny weather, the beauty of the city, and the friendly residents. She also appreciates the high quality of healthcare in Portugal, which she says is “astronomically” better than in the US.

Dreyfuss has traveled extensively throughout Europe since moving to Portugal and has visited several countries, including Spain, France, and Austria. She hopes to continue exploring the continent and is currently in the process of applying for Portuguese citizenship.
