California Nurse Under Fire

A California registered nurse is facing backlash after social media posts appeared to express a wish that President Donald Trump and late Sen. Lindsey Graham would die. The posts, made by Robert Acuna-Bagshaw, who identifies himself as a registered nurse at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Memorial Children’s Hospital, have prompted questions about whether his employer is reviewing the matter.

Details of the Posts

The Instagram story appears to show a collage of three public figures, Sen. Mitch McConnell, President Donald Trump, and Graham. McConnell is on the left, with a skull power-plug emoji beneath his photo and flashing text that says, ‘Pull the plug.’ Trump is in the center, with a countdown beneath his photo, and Graham is on the right, with a gray tombstone graphic reading ‘R.I.P.’ over his image.

Near the top of the story is an orange cross graphic, and the Instagram account name visible appears to be ‘lb_buddha,’ with Acuna-Bagshaw’s name also appearing on the account profile. The post also includes the text, ‘If all 3 of these f—ers die this week, I might become religious again.’

Response to Backlash

In a later Instagram story, Acuna-Bagshaw wrote that he has been receiving threats and messages from people who are upset about his posts. He stated that he has friends in positions that specialize in these situations and that he is fortunate to have made a life with friends who can help him.

Acuna-Bagshaw also mentioned that he has been attacked for being a nurse and that people assume he is racist and bigoted. He stated that these people are ‘exactly what’s wrong with this world’ and that they attack and insinuate about people they know nothing about.
