A change in the weather pattern is expected to bring drier air and sunshine to central and Eastern Kentucky. After a weekend of scattered showers and storms, the region experienced a quieter start to the week. The slow-moving upper-level low to the southwest kept some moisture in the area, but overall, it was a much drier day than what the region has seen lately.
Warmer Temperatures Ahead
As high pressure builds in from the northwest on Tuesday, the region can expect a break from the active weather pattern. The upper low will be pushed to the southwest, leading to a mostly sunny and dry day. Afternoon highs will climb back into the upper 80s, which is around average for mid-July. While it will still be somewhat humid, an east wind should temper the humidity, making for a comfortable day.
The hot and humid pattern will stick around into the upcoming weekend as a weak frontal boundary drops into the Ohio Valley. With the heat and moisture, a few scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible, but it doesn’t look like a washout. Afternoon highs will continue to be on the warm side, reaching the upper 80s to around 90 degrees, with the humidity making it feel even hotter.
