Residents in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, are speaking out against a proposed data center, citing concerns over its potential environmental impacts. The data center, which is currently under construction along State Line Road, has already begun to alter the character of the area, according to local resident Tommy Bison.
Environmental Concerns
Bison, who lives across the street from the site, expressed his concerns to the Caddo Parish Commission and its Natural Resources Committee, stating that the construction has destroyed the natural habitat of local wildlife, including squirrels, deer, and turtles. He also raised concerns about the potential effects on his own spring-fed pond, which has lost a foot of water over the past year.
Other residents have echoed Bison’s concerns, calling for more transparency and a moratorium on future data center projects. The group No Data Centers 318 is organizing petitions and pushing for environmental justice and transparency from local officials.
A meeting is scheduled to be held at Greenwood Acres Baptist Church, where residents can learn more about the potential impacts of data centers on their community.
