Shreveport, La. – Caddo Parish Animal Services is calling on local families to consider adoption as it prepares for its annual Clear the Shelters event. The shelter’s “Paws to Care” segment this week highlighted two of its newest residents, Tucker and Tuxie, two lively 3½‑month‑old kittens looking for permanent homes.

Representative Kim Freeman introduced the kittens, noting they are part of a four‑kitten litter rescued as strays and brought to the shelter. “These two are already fully vetted and ready to go,” Freeman said, emphasizing that the animals have received the necessary health checks and vaccinations.
Clear the Shelters details
The adoption event will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Caddo Parish Animal Services facility. During the three‑hour window, adoption fees for all animals will be waived, giving prospective pet owners the chance to bring home a dog, cat, or other young animal at no cost.
Freeman reminded attendees that summer heat can be dangerous for pets. She urged owners to provide ample shade and fresh water for animals outdoors and to never leave pets unattended in vehicles.
Family‑friendly adoption process
To help ensure a good match, shelter staff encourage families to bring all household members, including existing pets, for meet‑and‑greet sessions. This approach allows potential adopters to see how the new kitten interacts with other animals and family members before making a commitment.
The shelter currently has a large number of dogs, cats, and young animals available for adoption. By waiving fees and promoting responsible pet‑care practices, Clear the Shelters aims to connect more animals with loving families and reduce the number of strays in the community.
Why adoption matters
Adopting a pet not only gives a homeless animal a second chance but also supports the shelter’s mission to manage the stray population responsibly. Each successful adoption helps free resources for other animals in need and strengthens the bond between pets and the families that care for them.
Community members who are interested in adopting or learning more about the event are encouraged to contact Caddo Parish Animal Services directly or visit the shelter during the scheduled hours.
