Busch Gardens Williamsburg has revamped its Verbolten roller coaster with new theming and special effects, creating a more immersive experience for riders. The updated ride, called Verbolten: Forbidden Turn, features a new animatronic character, Frau Hexel, who sets the tone for the ride with a stern warning: “Don’t turn right.” This addition helps to clarify the ride’s storyline, which was previously unclear.
The Queue and Ride Experience
The queue for Verbolten: Forbidden Turn has been refreshed with new paint and signage, and features over 50 easter eggs referencing the original Verbolten and other bits of Busch Gardens history. The ride experience itself has been improved with the addition of new special effects, including a colorful Black Forest billboard and a skull-shaped cave. The drop track, a rare and exciting element, is still a highlight of the ride.
While some lighting effects were already broken on the day of the review, the overall experience is an improvement over the original Verbolten. The finale of the ride remains the same, with a launch into the last drop and turn by the river, mimicking the old Big Bad Wolf. However, the brakes hit hard, which takes away from the excitement of the last drop.
