Burns, Ore. – A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a longtime Burns resident on Saturday afternoon. Rae Jean Marie Neumann, 71, was operating a utility‑task vehicle (UTV) southbound on the shoulder of Highway 78 near milepost 36 when she attempted to cross the highway to reach a driveway.
Collision Details
At approximately 4:00 p.m., Timothy John Dudzik, 86, of Carefree, Ariz., was traveling southbound in a silver Mercedes E350 when he encountered Neumann’s UTV. Investigators with the Oregon State Police determined that Dudzik was unable to avoid the UTV and struck it on the driver’s side. The Mercedes came to a stop on the northbound shoulder after the impact.
Fatal Outcome
Neumann was thrown from the UTV and was pronounced dead at the scene. Dudzik was not injured in the crash. The Oregon State Police were assisted by the Harney County Sheriff’s Office, the Burns Police Department, and Harney District Hospital Emergency Medical Services in securing the scene and providing aid.
