A large wildfire in the Shallotte area of Brunswick County has grown to approximately 300 acres, according to the North Carolina Forest Service. The fire, which is 60% contained as of 11:20 p.m. Friday, may impact visibility in the area near Old Georgetown Road and Hale Swamp Road.
Officials are asking drivers to use caution when traveling nearby and to avoid the area if possible to allow fire personnel and first responders to work safely.
