Brown County officials are investigating the death of a 45‑year‑old inmate who suffered a cardiac event while undergoing a medical examination at the Brown County Jail on Sept. 4.

According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate began “exhibiting medical complications while being examined by medical staff.” First responders were called, and as the inmate was being transferred into a life squad, he experienced what the sheriff’s office described as a “cardiac event.”

Emergency personnel performed life‑saving measures and transported the inmate to Mt. Orab Mercy Hospital. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigations underway

The sheriff’s office identified the deceased as Scott Dearing, 45. The Brown County Coroner’s Office was notified and subsequently transferred the case to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office for a formal investigation.
