Broward County parents can expect expanded enrichment options and reduced class sizes for popular high school courses this school year. The school district made two announcements on Tuesday that may positively impact students. All 128 elementary schools will now offer at least three enrichment courses, including music, art, and physical education.

Increased Access to Enrichment Courses

This expansion is a result of the district spending $800,000 to provide more specials to 14 schools that previously had only two options. The initiative, pushed by board member Allen Zeman, aims to provide equal access to enrichment courses for all students, regardless of their school’s location or economic status.

The district also announced plans to reduce overcrowding in popular high school courses, such as Advanced Placement (AP) classes. This will allow more students to take these classes and provide a better learning environment. The district will provide an additional 1,000 classes to ensure that class sizes are comparable to the needs of the type of instruction students will receive.

The school board’s decision to expand enrichment options and reduce class sizes is a step towards providing a better education for all students in Broward County. The district is now looking to hire teachers to fill these new roles, with the school year start date of August 10 approaching quickly.
