Connecticut Sun center Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle, according to court documents filed Thursday in Fulton County, Georgia.
The complaint for divorce and other relief states the couple married on June 18, 2018, and have been separated since July 24. It states that Griner says the marriage is “irretrievably broken,” with “no hope of reconciliation,” and is asking the court to grant a divorce.
The couple has one son, born in 2024. Griner is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the child, child support, and an equitable division of the couple’s marital assets and debts.
Griner, a 10-time WNBA All-Star, signed a one-year contract with the Connecticut Sun ahead of the 2026 season after spending her first 11 WNBA seasons with the Phoenix Mercury and a season with the Atlanta Dream in 2025.
