The Town of Boone will implement Stage 2 water restrictions on July 1 in response to the ongoing drought in the Carolinas.
Restrictions
Under the new restrictions, residential and commercial water customers in Boone will be prohibited from several activities unless given authorization by the town. These restrictions include a ban on lawn watering and installing new landscaping that requires irrigation.
Further limitations include a ban on filling swimming pools and hot tubs, washing vehicles without water recycling, and cleaning driveways and sidewalks. The use of fire hydrants for non-emergency purposes is also restricted.
Restaurants will only be allowed to serve drinking water upon customer request, and water-cooled equipment not designed to recycle water will be restricted unless there are medical necessities involved. Commercial food establishments must use disposable or biodegradable utensils when effective alternatives exist.
Violations of these mandatory restrictions may result in civil penalties. Residents seeking more information can contact the Boone Public Utilities Department at 828-268-6250.
