When you drive through Boise or Meridian in October, you’ll likely spot a Jeep completely covered in skeletons – from the roof to the hood, even a tiny coffin perched on the back. Owner Jeff Miller calls it the “Jeeper Creeper,” and he uses the vehicle as a rolling Halloween display that brings smiles to neighbors, shoppers and commuters.
Why a Skeleton‑Covered Jeep?
Miller says he loves Halloween’s creativity and wanted a way to share that joy beyond his own home. “You spend all that time decorating your house, then you go to work and never get to enjoy it,” he explained. “So I turned my Jeep into a mobile display that I could take everywhere.” The result is a vehicle literally dripping with skeletons, skulls, lights and even a miniature coffin, all securely anchored for safe travel on I‑84 and local streets.
From Personal Fun to Charitable Cause
The project took on a larger purpose when Miller partnered with his neighbor Angelo, a longtime organizer of a major Halloween display in the Treasure Valley. Angelo is involved with Skeletons for St. Jude, a nationwide fundraiser that turns Halloween decorations into donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Founded in 2020 by Jeff Robertson in North Carolina, Skeletons for St. Jude began with a single fundraising sign and a modest $8,200. Since then, the movement has expanded to hundreds of homes across the country, raising more than $1.1 million for the hospital, according to Robertson.
How the Jeep Helps
When the Jeeper Creeper cruises the Treasure Valley, it displays Skeletons for St. Jude magnets and a QR code that drivers can scan to donate directly to the hospital. Miller says the response has been enthusiastic: children wave, adults snap photos, and many stop to contribute.
“I get to do something I love, and kids get excited when they see it,” Miller said. “If we can take some of that fun and use it to do a little good at the same time, that’s a pretty darn good reason to keep adding skeletons.”
Upcoming Community Events
Later this month, the effort will expand beyond the Jeep. Meridian will host three special Skeletons for St. Jude nights on October 17, 23 and 24 at 568 W. Yosemite Dr. The evenings will feature a large Halloween display, food trucks donating a portion of their proceeds, photo opportunities and novelty characters such as “Zombie Claus” and “Mrs. Claus.”
These events aim to bring families together, celebrate the holiday spirit, and raise additional funds for children battling serious illnesses.
Community Impact
The Jeeper Creeper exemplifies how a simple, creative idea can foster community pride while supporting a vital charitable cause. It underscores the Treasure Valley’s tradition of volunteerism and the willingness of local residents to turn holiday fun into meaningful assistance for those in need.
Whether you’re driving to work, shopping at a grocery store, or attending a local festival, keep an eye out for the skeleton‑laden Jeep. A quick scan of the QR code could turn a moment of Halloween delight into a lasting contribution for St. Jude’s mission to cure childhood cancer.
