The incident began when a 43-year-old Summerfield resident was driving an Acura MDX down the ramp and failed to negotiate a curve, drifting into the highway’s outside lane.

Collision sends boat airborne

At the bottom of the ramp, the Acura collided with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 66-year-old man from Tarpon Springs who was towing a boat on a trailer. The impact was strong enough to launch the boat off the trailer. Troopers said the boat rolled along the highway before finally coming to a stop.

Neither driver nor any passengers in either vehicle reported injuries, and no medical assistance was required at the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol cleared the roadway after confirming that all parties were safe.
