A guilty plea, a trial delay and an additional judge are the big stories coming out of today’s court proceedings in the Bibb County child sexual abuse case. The Bibb County Sheriff’s office began the investigation into reports of the abuse in February of 2025 and publicly announced it in July as they executed search warrants at an underground bunker on Aaron Drive in Brent.
Guilty Plea and Trial Delay
Rebecca Brewer is one of the defendants in that case. She pleaded guilty to nine counts of first-degree kidnapping and one count of sexual torture during the hearing in Bibb County Circuit Court. Brewer’s sentencing was deferred until the trials of the other defendants are completed. Her guilty plea could result in a sentence of 10 years up to life in prison.
The trials of the seven other defendants have been delayed due to continuing discovery in the case. Discovery refers to the discovery phase of a trial in the pre-trial period where opposing parties formally exchange evidence, documents, and witness information. Some of the remaining defendants have pleaded not guilty while others have pled not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Also during today’s court proceedings, Circuit Judge Gregory S. Griggers of Marengo County was introduced as a second judge to hear the proceedings of the seven different cases along with Bibb County Circuit Judge Donald McMillan.
