Bexar County held a ceremony to honor U.S. service members who have been wounded or killed in combat, in observance of National Purple Heart Day. The event was hosted by Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Alamo Chapter 1836, and the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Local Veterans Share Their Stories

San Antonio native Tony Roman, a Purple Heart recipient, shared his experiences during the Vietnam War. Roman was awarded two Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifices. He spoke about the importance of honoring those who have served and sacrificed for their country.

The downtown memorial, which bears the names of hundreds of Purple Heart recipients, will be illuminated at night for the rest of August, which is Purple Heart month. Adame-Clark announced that the illumination will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Purple Heart recipients and their families.
