As the new school year approaches, several organizations in San Francisco are hosting events to provide free backpacks and school supplies to students in need. On Saturday, August 15, the Mission Lotería will host a back to school resource fair at the Mission Street BART plazas from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event, called “Sábado Gigante,” is free and open to the public. Additionally, the Pacific Islander community nonprofit All My Usos will host a Family Day Barbecue at Gilman Playground in Hunters Point on Saturday, August 15. Barbers at Westside Cuts and Styles will offer free haircuts and school supplies on Sunday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Richmond District church NationTakers Ministries will host a backpack and school supplies giveaway at 10:30 a.m. before Sunday service on August 16. The nonprofit Us4Us will also host a backpack giveaway at the South East Community Center at 1550 Evans Ave on Sunday, August 16. The African American Art & Culture Complex will host a back to school book fair on Saturday, August 22.
